We have a truly special treat this week at our January Coeur d’Alene Web Marketers meeting.  Gabe Ripley of BeyonDesign and Nathan Kay, entrepreneur, will both be presenting!

Let me tell you a bit about Gabe Ripley:  Front-end designer by trade, aspiring Webmaster by necessity, and interstate man of mystery by birthright, Gabe is rarely sitting still pursuing entrepreneurial endeavors, and helping others realize their online potential using his varied, bordering on random skillset. Disciplines you’ll often find him dabbling in: design, print, SEO, web front-end and “glue” scripting.  Gabe’s project range from www.OneThousandThingsToDo.com, to www.CollegeGolfCamps.com and other projects such as www.NorthernIdahoaConnectRealty.com.

I’ve worked with Gabe personally for over 5 years and can attest that he is one of the best designers/developers and web jack of all trades in the country.    Gabe will be walking the group through installing WordPress on any url and demonstrating some of the powerful features that WordPress offers designers, developers and business while walking us through some of the advanced features he has used to get the job done.

About Nathan Kay: “I’m a full time teacher in CDA and a part-time pilot for the Air National Guard in Spokane. In the past, I’ve provided web development and consulting for a few small businesses but mainly I like to work on my own with my personal web projects. Recently just developed and sold WeLoveWP.com, a popular design showcase of WordPress powered sites.”

“WordPress is a great platform for any beginner or advanced developer or business. There is so much you can do with it. I’ll be featuring different websites out there that use WordPress as a platform to give people an idea about how it’s used. I’ll also direct people to different resources out there that routinely talk about WordPress and give tips and news about it. Themes are also a big thing with WordPress and I’ll show people where they can get some awesome free themes and some quality premium themes as well. I’ll be happy to answer any general questions about WordPress as I’m pretty familiar with most everything about it as I’ve worked with it since I started web development and will continue to use it for future projects.”

This will be a pretty exciting meeting as these two will be giving us quite a bit of information to help us help our clients and our business move forward.

The meeting is at 8am this Friday January 9th at 8am.  Calypsos on Lakeside is the place!

Typically our meeting is the first Friday of each month. Since we just celebrated the new year, we thought it would be best to postpone our meeting till next week. We’ll see you at Calypsos at 8am on January 9th!

The Coeur d’Alene Web Marketers Group had our monthly meeting last Friday.  Mathew Scott of the Life’s Work Group joined us for a question and answer session revolving around going virtual.  If you want to learn more about Mathew, you can click here.

This meeting was very unique for us.  It was our first meeting where the presenter was in another state!  It was very appropriate that while we had a speaker discussing how and why to go virtual in your business was presenting via a webcam, um, virtually.  We had a few glitches and learned quickly one of the rules of going virtual, test everything prior to needing it.  We found that the audio via skype was difficult to hear when using a wireless connection. Next time we’ll have to get a hardline.

Matthew discussed his company, TrunkClub, and how they do their business entirely virtually.  Matthew also discussed many ways we can use virtual tools with clients and potential clients to better our business.

Here are some links Matthew shared with us:

2. Basecamp Project Management at http://basecamphq.com?referrer=M42JZ7AKVQ
One I would add is Oovoo.com, Mathew shared that he uses this to web conference with up to four people.  I’ve been using the service since Friday and it is a great tool and works great.
There was so much to share from this meeting and we are working with Matthew to fly him in so he can walk us through even more information in person.  If you attended, please share what you learned here so those that didn’t attend can get a feel for what he talked about.

mscott-headshot_13182We have a slight change to this week’s meeting at Calypsos.  Jim Kukral is unable to make it.  We’ll reschedule his presentation for later in the year.  Jim was kind enough to find a replacement for him, Mathew Ray Scott of LifesWorkGroup.com, and after speaking with him today, I am sure he will be more than a suitable replacement.

Who is Mathew?  Let me tell you:

Matthew entered the United States Army in 1985 serving in various leadership positions as a combat infantryman, a Special Forces Psychological Warfare specialist, commanding combat medics during Operation Desert Storm in Iraq, and a paratrooper Captain with the legendary 82nd Airborne Division.

In 1994, he made the decision to leave the military and chose a position as a sales and marketing consultant in the biotechnology market and within seven years, was a Co-Developer and a Vice President, Sales for a biotechnology company in San Diego, California.

In 2004, the biotechnology business unit Matthew co-developed, sold for 16x times earnings. He had surpassed every career and financial goal set for himself after leaving the military.

His leadership and business development success led to the formation of The Life’s Work Group, Inc. Portfolio Group consisting of The Strategic Incubator and The Trunk Club.

Today, Matthew serves as the Founder & Managing Director, The Strategic Incubator, a global strategic implementation firm equipping leaders to align strategic vision with a tactical execution of revenue producing activities in taking a great idea and building a revenue-producing process.

Matthew is also the Managing Partner and Co-Owner of The Trunk Club, a company that revolutionizes the way men shop for clothing and define their authentic style. The Trunk Club’s creative business model has been featured by Microsoft Small Business, numerous magazine and television media, and even recently featured in a book, entitled Plan As-You-Go Business Plan by Tim Berry, Founder of Palo Alto Software, the leading business planning software on the market today.

Matthew is the host for Personal Life Media, Book Digest, where he summarizes the best business books for busy business leaders in eight minutes or less.

Matthew is the creator of the popular men@pause seminar, conversations with leading entrepreneurs and best selling business authors focusing on strategic entrepreneurial life + work design.

As a chosen speaker for the prestigious Five Star Speakers, Matthew speaks to thousands of people every year on business development topics and designing strategic life + work design for entrepreners.

Matthew completed his Masters Degree in Management in 1991 and completed certification as a Certified Professional Coach sanctioned by the International Coaching Federation (ICF) in 2006.

Matthew resides in Oregon with his wife and three children living with intention next to the ski trails of Mt. Hood and the vineyards of Willamette Valley. He is scheduled to publish his first book, men@pause: executive men in transition in early February 2009.

Mathew will be presenting on taking your business virtual.  I’ll be asking him various questions and will be encouraging the group to do the same so we will have a very interactive presentation.

We are also still looking for two “hotseats”.  If you have an idea you’d like to flush out or a problem you are having trouble solving, email me and we’ll get you on the list.

Our next meeting of the Coeur d’Alene Web Marketers is on December 5th, 8am at Calypsos on Lakeside in Coeur d’Alene.  We have the very good fortune of having Jim Kukral of The Biz Web Coach presenting this time.  Jim will be presenting on several different issues including: personal branding, using virtual assistants and a recent rebranding Jim went through over the past month or so.  Jim will be joining us virtually via web cam so it is sure to be a great meeting!  Jim is a long standing personal friend of mine and I can’t wait to hear what he has to say.

About Jim:

Jim Kukral is a web marketer & coach, speaker, long-time award-winning blogger, customer evangelist, writer, online monetization expert, and well, a bunch of other things. Yeah, he’s done a bit of everything.

For years Jim has been working on the bleeding edge of web marketing and business. From owning his own web firms to consulting for some of the world’s largest companies, Jim Kukral has experienced just about everything web related you can think of. That’s why Jim has become one of the Industry’s most sought after consultants and public speakers.

Jim focuses on helping businesses and brands find success online. Whether that’s through providing expert advice for the firm that can’t figure out how to get their web strategy right, or helping a business achieve more publicity, sales or leads, Jim has the experience and knowledge to get it done right the first time.

When Jim isn’t speaking or consulting to top Fortune 500 clients, Jim spends his business hours as the owner of Scratchback.com, a widget-based tipping system that thousands of bloggers and webmasters use daily. Jim also produces a daily web show about web marketing and being an entrepreneur called the Daily Flip, where he broadcasts shows in audio or video. The Daily Flip reaches hundreds of thousands of viewers and listeners.

Jim has written professionally for both clickZ.com and Builder.com, as well as other top Industry magazines like Revenue Today. He is currently writing a new book (details to come in the future).

Jim is also a highly rated speaker at Industry events, and has experience working as a show emcee and special introductions for keynote speakers. Read more about Jim’s speaking or book him for your event.

Jim is also regarded as a web video expert, having produced hundreds of videos for himself and his clients, that have been viewed by hundreds of thousands of people. His free guide called the Online Video Toolkit has been featured in Entrepreneur blogs and on Marketing Sherpa.

But what Jim is most proud of is his ability to have fun in his work. “If it’s not fun, why do it?,” says Jim. Because of his love of “fun”, Jim has created fun projects like the Awesome Million, and Big Brown Box. Clients who work with Jim enjoy his attitude and willingness to think beyond the limits of innovation and creativity.

Check him out at BizWebCoach, JimKukral.com and Blend This Book.

Again, please bring $5 for use of the room, that money goes to a coffee for yourself or something to eat.  Calypsos is a great place to meet and we really want to support them.  If you have any questions, email me at jamie@jebcommerce.com

Good morning world.  Wow what a day yesterday huh?  Regardless of your politics and who you voted for, it was a historic election and I’m just glad it’s over.  Seemed like the campaigns lasted for 3 years.

So, onto the agenda for this week’s meeting.  Following up on Ed Reese’s popular and educational presentation on SEO, Ed will be taking the stage again on Friday.  Ed will be reveiwing two of our attendees’ websites and helping them live with their SEO.  A sort of SEO mini workshop.

It’s a can’t miss meeting this Friday and I hope you all attend.  If you have been confused about SEO and want to see a real site make changes with Ed’s help, now is the time to attend.

Friday, 8am at Calypso’s on Lakeside in Coeur d’Alene.  Please bring $5 to assist in the rental of the room.

On October 3rd we held our monthly meeting at Calypsos.  I know I know, it’s been two weeks and I am just now giving everyone an update….

As outlined in this blog earlier, Ed Reese from SixthManMarketing presented on search engine optimization.  The presentation was outstanding and as you can see from our picture below, everyone was glued to each new bit of information shared.

This was our best attended meeting as of yet with just about 20 people filling the conference room for an early morning meeting.  We actually didn’t do our hot seats during this meeting as the information we got from Ed was so valuable I don’t think anyone wanted him to stop.

Ed walked the group through an introduction of SEO:

  1. Definition vs Common Perceptions
  2. Organic Search vs Paid Search
  3. Why do we care?
  4. The three legged stool of search (technical, content and trust)
  5. The different types of organic search
  6. Local search tips
  7. Tools and resources

It was a great presentation and provided many of the attendees with some great things to get started on right away.  Ed really raised the bar for our presenters by not only bringing in a great presentation on our projector but also providing handouts.  I think the next presenter will have to bring in a dancing monkey to compete.  :)

We are still looking for a presenter for our November meeting.  If you have an idea please let us know. You definitely want to attend these meetings where you get to meet, network and learn from companies like:

  • DirtyBlueMedia
  • Hog Advertising
  • Keller Williams
  • Whitestone Design Works
  • Boeing
  • Converseon
  • Camp Mivoden
  • Antal Consulting
  • Convertech Solutions and more!

Past attendees – if you would like to have a link to your site in our blogroll, please email me at jamie@jebcommerce.com.

I just got an email from Heather Keen of the Kootenai County Young Professionals outlining some of their upcoming events.  These are great networking opportunities and you should definitely check them out.
