January 2009

Most direct marketers (and web marketing is a form of direct marketing, after all) will tell you that perhaps the most important single element on your landing page is the headline.  If that’s true, are you giving sufficient thought to the headlines you use?  Do you know for sure that they are working?  How can you improve them?

On Friday, February 6, the topic of our meeting will be a focus how to create the most effective headlines and then how to test them to be sure that you’re actually using the best one possible.

The meeting will be hosted by Denver and Randy Wilkinson, of Trienelle Skincare.  The meeting will include a portion of an excellent online seminar by MarketingExperiments.com which focused on how to write headlines.  With that knowledge in hand, the question of how to test for the best headline is addressed by a thorough review of Google’s free tool, Website Optimizer.

Denver is head of online marketing at Trienelle Skincare.  Randy is the CEO.

The meeting is at 8 am at Calypsos on Lakeside in Coeur d’Alene.  There is a $5 charge to cover the room and Calypsos has great breakfasts and coffee. If you have questions or need information please contact Jamie at jamie@jebcommerce.com.

At our last meeting we discussed a second monthly meeting every month.  We called it a “working meeting”.

Here is the premise:  Every month we have a presentation on something we probably should or want to be doing, last month WordPress Installation.  We thought it would be a great idea to have a second meeting, two weeks or so after our monthly meeting, where we all can get together at Calypsos and share what we have done regarding the presentation at the last meeting and help each other with any problems related to that subject.

It would be an informal meeting with no presentation.  We would just have the room reserved and anyone who wants to swing by, well they can.  I’ve scheduled the room at Calypsos for Thursday the 22nd from 9am to 11am.  I will be attending and have a new wordpress blog that I’d like to get some input on.

If you plan on attending, please comment here so that everyone can see who will be there.  We’ll test out this method and see how it works.

So Thursday 9-11am at Calypsos.

Please leave a comment if you plan to attend!

What a great meeting today!  We had over 20 people at our meeting with many new faces.  We may have to find a different room!

We have a truly special treat this week at our January Coeur d’Alene Web Marketers meeting.  Gabe Ripley of BeyonDesign and Nathan Kay, entrepreneur, will both be presenting!

Let me tell you a bit about Gabe Ripley:  Front-end designer by trade, aspiring Webmaster by necessity, and interstate man of mystery by birthright, Gabe is rarely sitting still pursuing entrepreneurial endeavors, and helping others realize their online potential using his varied, bordering on random skillset. Disciplines you’ll often find him dabbling in: design, print, SEO, web front-end and “glue” scripting.  Gabe’s project range from www.OneThousandThingsToDo.com, to www.CollegeGolfCamps.com and other projects such as www.NorthernIdahoaConnectRealty.com.

I’ve worked with Gabe personally for over 5 years and can attest that he is one of the best designers/developers and web jack of all trades in the country.    Gabe will be walking the group through installing WordPress on any url and demonstrating some of the powerful features that WordPress offers designers, developers and business while walking us through some of the advanced features he has used to get the job done.

About Nathan Kay: “I’m a full time teacher in CDA and a part-time pilot for the Air National Guard in Spokane. In the past, I’ve provided web development and consulting for a few small businesses but mainly I like to work on my own with my personal web projects. Recently just developed and sold WeLoveWP.com, a popular design showcase of WordPress powered sites.”

“WordPress is a great platform for any beginner or advanced developer or business. There is so much you can do with it. I’ll be featuring different websites out there that use WordPress as a platform to give people an idea about how it’s used. I’ll also direct people to different resources out there that routinely talk about WordPress and give tips and news about it. Themes are also a big thing with WordPress and I’ll show people where they can get some awesome free themes and some quality premium themes as well. I’ll be happy to answer any general questions about WordPress as I’m pretty familiar with most everything about it as I’ve worked with it since I started web development and will continue to use it for future projects.”

This will be a pretty exciting meeting as these two will be giving us quite a bit of information to help us help our clients and our business move forward.

The meeting is at 8am this Friday January 9th at 8am.  Calypsos on Lakeside is the place!

Typically our meeting is the first Friday of each month. Since we just celebrated the new year, we thought it would be best to postpone our meeting till next week. We’ll see you at Calypsos at 8am on January 9th!
